Hank Rubin MPH ’51 died Feb. 24, 2011, at age 94. A fixture in the Bay Area’s wine and food scene, he was the longtime wine editor for Bon Appétit magazine, a wine columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, and the host of a KQED radio show. As a pre-med student at UCLA, he dropped out of school to join the all-volunteer Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War. He finished his undergraduate degree before returning to the battlefront with the U.S. Army in 1942. He later worked for the Contra Costa Public Health Department.
