Benjamin J. Simboli DrPH ’76, MPH ’71 died on May 13, 2012, at his home in Sonoma, California. He was 74. Ben was the beloved husband of Barbara Simboli and the devoted father of Carina Simboli, Georgina Ramirez, Andrina Scardina, and Sarah del Monte. He was also the adored grandfather of Cole Neece and Trenton Tye.
Ben served in the U.S. Army and acted as an interpreter in Italy. After being discharged from the Army, Ben attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a BS in engineering.
Ben worked for the City of Berkeley for several years then went on to attend UC Berkeley School of Public Health and received his MPH in 1971. He began a long career with the State of California Department of Health Services. During this time, Ben received his DrPH at UC Berkeley School of Public Health in 1976.
Ben retired from the State in 2000 and pursued his many interests, which included astronomy, painting, reading, caring for his two labradors and physical fitness.
Ben was an old ”gym rat” who worked out at the Berkeley Y, Harmon’s Gym and the RSF for many years.
